An Introduction to
the Shrub End Facility
In
April 2006 the redevelopment of the Shrub End site was completed and a brand
new facility is now available to a wide cross section of the community.
The joint venture
between
Colchester Borough Council,
Colchester United
Community Sports Trust
and their partners, the
Football Foundation,
Sport England,
Cory Environmental
Trust and
the
Colchester
Crime & Disorder Partnership
offers some of the
most sophisticated community and sports facilities in the county, including
one of only three football pitches in the country made from the most
advanced synthetic turf currently on the market and a fully fitted computer
suite which will act as a study support centre for schools and community
groups.
What's
On Offer?
The
centre boasts a full size 4th generation synthetic turf pitch, full, half
and quarter size sections are available as well as full floodlight facilities,
there are also two full size grass pitches available. Inside the centre
there is a dedicated Health and Education suite with laptop and internet
access, home of the Playing For Success project and also with fully
interactive white board facilities. In addition to this there are
12 suites of changing rooms, a physiotherapy suite, a refectory, two activity
halls and fully fitted kitchen. The Sports Trust's Women and Girls
Football programme is also based at the venue and have use of 2 the full
size grass pitches.
Who Can
Use It?
The
pitch is avalaible for hire from 9am-10pm every day to youth football
clubs, non league clubs, schools, Sunday League clubs as well as business
leagues and teams and social teams. The two grass pitches can be
booked between 9am-4pm every day and also all three pitches can be utilised
for one off events as well as longer term block bookings.
The
Internal facilities - Refectory, Terry Sutton Community Hall, Terry
Sutton Small Hall with access to the kitchen, are available for hire
to community groups, local business and local government organisations
from 9am to 10pm every day.
Further
internal activities covering schools, football, social, health and educational
activities as well as usage of the pitch will also be on offer for a variety
of different community groups and will be delivered by the Sports
Trust through funding from
the Football
Foundation and Sport
England. The venue
is avavailable for usage by local community groups and organisations such
as sports for all groups, fitness over 50's, mothers and toddlers groups,
youth groups, children's clubs and also schools and disabiltiy groups.
We
would like to hear from football clubs and social teams, community groups,
local businesses, local organisations who would like to take advantage
of this fantastic facility. The are Education Room, Halls, Changing
Facilities and the Astro Turf pitch available for hire for a variety of
