School Sports Programme
The school sports programme is one of the most-successful, longest-running programmes that Colchester United Community Sports Trust’s offers to schools in and around north and east Essex. It includes:
- A multi-skills programme, aimed specifically at Key Stage One children
- A range of different sports at Key Stage One and Two including football, netball, basketball, athletics, cricket, tennis, rounders and hockey
- Provision of all equipment
- Schemes of works and lesson plans based on the National Curriculum and using the Val Sabin resource packs
- Staff who all have relevant CRB Disclosures and Emergency First Aid certificates, and have attended workshops on Safeguarding Children and AOTT’s (Adults Other Than Teachers)
- Cross curricular activities linked to health awareness
- Classroom activities for wet weather days
- Potential fundraising for the school from children’s subscriptions through the operation of an after-school club (which is administered totally by the school).
Schools can choose to take up an all-day option, where the CUCST coach is at the school from 9am to 4.30pm. This service can be used by schools as an affordable solution to PPA cover and as an extension to the school day (in the operation of the after-school club).
Alternatively, the school can attend just for the afternoon.
