NPOWER Football League - Home Team Heroes - Result
In October, npower kicked off its Home Team Heroes programme asking fans how to spend the £10,000 donated to each of the 72 clubs.
Voting for npower's Hometeam heroes has now closed - and npower received a staggering 191,000 votes for projects right across the UK.
Clare McDougall, npower’s Head of Community & Education is absolutely delighted with the response saying; “so many votes is a fantastic achievement – we are thrilled to have so much support from the Football League clubs. We wanted fans to have a say in which community programme their club wins – 190,000 did just that”
David Edmundson, Head of Football League Trust adds “Working with npower on the Home Team Heroes project will allow our community trusts to deliver activities which will reach into the heart of local communities, and make a positive impact upon young people. It’s fantastic that so many people have voted and selected a project which fits the needs of their area”
The people of Colchester had the chance to help decide which one of three new projects gets the go ahead at Colchester United Community Sports Trust.
The Trust were given the chance to secure funding as part of the Home Team Heroes project which is being run by the Football League Trust and sponsored by npower. The money will be used to deliver one of three new projects in the local community which local people have chosen.
You could have voted for either:
Respect: Do you think we should put 1,200 children through a Respect training workshop? If you vote for this option, CUCST could be visiting a number of local primary schools and delivering a one hour Respect workshop. This interactive workshop will help young people aged between 10 and 11 learn important skills such as teamwork and citizenship - and understand how these apply to football and other areas of their life. If you wish you can even vote for a school where you’d like the 10-11 year olds to receive this workshop. As a special treat, the school with the most votes will receive this workshop at the Colchester United ground.
Playground: Should we revamp a local playground to encourage children to play sport? If you vote for this option we could either revamp and clean up a local park to give local youngsters somewhere to play and get active or work with a local school, brightening up their playground so children can play games. Teachers would also receive a mini training session so they can get their pupils fully engaged in playing games by using the floor markings.
Coaching: Do you want a new skills coaching programme for 200 4-6 year olds? If this option is successful, CUCST coaches could be delivering a fun five week course for 4-6 year olds at the club, local community centre or school. The course would help children to learn fundamental sporting skills such as agility, balance, co-ordination, rolling and dribbling. Mums and Dads will be able to join in too! This course will help children at an early age to develop their social interaction and their self confidence.
After we received over 3,500 votes which is fabulous, Colchester United Community Sports Trust are pleased to announce that we will be delivering the 'Coaching' programme as described above.
Thank you to all our fans that took the time to vote for their preferred npower Home Team Heroes project.
