Positive Futures Football Tournament

6th June 2007

Eleven Teams from around the region took a day trip out to Colchester recently to take part in the first 'Positive Futures' tournament to be held at the Shrub End Commnity & Sports Centre.

Positive Futures is a national social inclusion programme using sport and leisure activities to engage with disadvantaged and socially marginalised young adults. Using sport and leisure activities as a catalyst to encourage project participation the project steers young people towards education, training and employment.

Tom Brannon, Positive Futures Officer at the Sports Trust has been working with young people for a number of years and was pleased with the interest shown;

"I wanted to put on an event which would bring together the different Positive Futures projects in the area and give the participants a day to remember."

The 7-a-side competition attracted teams from Waveney, Haverhill, Millwall and even from as far afield as Gravesend & Northfleet (Charlton) with the matches played in good competitive spirit. It was Millwall who won through on the day with Ealing securing runners up spot. Commenting on the day Tom said;

"It was a very positive event for everyone involved, all of the young men played with good team spirit and they were a credit to themselves and the Positive Futures project they represented."
