Older adults get to grips with new technology
Colchester United Community Sports Trust’s Football Plus group got hands on with the latest technology when they visited the Imagine Centre at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
The group, for people over 55, meets every Monday at the Community Stadium and offers a wide range of activities from cookery and low impact exercise to quizzes and talks.
As one of their last sessions before the summer break, they had the chance to experience some of the latest technology around at the Imagine Centre.
While there they played football on the interactive floor, had a go at bowling with the help of a Wii and had the chance to try out an iPAD.
As well as providing innovative technology and support to schools, the Imagine Centre is also an exciting place for people of all ages from family groups to businesses.
Angie Syrett, Healthy Activity Co-ordinator, said: “The group had a great time in the Imagine Centre and really enjoyed having the chance to try out some of the latest technology around. Having such an innovative and exciting resource as the Imagine Centre on site is fantastic and it showed that it’s a really inspiring place for people of all ages.”
The Football Plus group has now broken up for the summer holiday though will return in September, running every Monday from 10am to 12noon at the Community Stadium.
Angie added: “We have been really pleased to see how popular Football Plus has become. Over the past weeks attendance has continued to build and many of the people who come along have become great friends. We offer a wide range of activities so there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
Football Plus is run by Colchester United Community Sports Trust and funded by the Football Foundation.
It gives older adults the opportunity to improve their health, increase their activity levels and boost their wellbeing while having fun, socialising and meeting new people.
