Healthy U’s Children’s Activities

Health Awareness Coaching Programmes

The CUCST team will be helping junior school children at 10 Colchester schools to find out more about healthy living.

Over a five week period, CUCST trained football coaches will visit the classes and deliver physical activity and healthy eating sessions to encourage them to making healthy lifestyle choices and get active. The programme also aims to help the children to increase their self esteem, motivation and confidence.

Lots of information will be available online to help the children to find out more, from challenges to quizzes and activities. Football relates prizes will be awarded to children achieving their targets and making healthy lifestyle changes.

Miss Fits

A group of Year 9 and 10 girls will be given the chance to find out more about a variety of ways to keep fit with the help of the Miss Fits programme.

Over a 10 week period, the CUCST health team will work with the group to sample a variety of activities – it could be anything from cheerleading to Pilates, or from kick boxing to yoga. Participants will also have the opportunity to train as activity leaders to lead the sessions, with a view to keeping the programme running independently at the end of the 10 weeks.

U’s Lunch Box

This is a brand new workshop delivered by CUCST coaches in conjunction with NHS North East Essex.

The U’s Lunch Box workshop involves a short talk and games delivered by the coaches to explore what makes a healthy lunch. Children then have the opportunity to try various foods and prepare a healthy lunch to eat. Recipe cards and feedback sheets are provided for all children to take home.

This is a school based programme that is fully funded.

Attending Positive Futures weekly sessions has improved my confidence attitude and self esteem. It also gave me a volunteer opportunity and a pathway to a career.
