Female Centre of Excellence

The Colchester United Female Centre of Excellence was established in 1997, one of the original centres to be licensed by the FA. The Centre is part of the Colchester United Community Sports Trust and run in partnership with the Essex County FA and the Football Association.
The Centre has a growing reputation as one of the best in the country and to date has produced 14 international players as well as supporting both a Female U-19 Academy based at Thurstable School in Tiptree as well as the Colchester United Ladies Football Club who play in the Tesco FA Women’s Premier League.
The Centre has also proved to be a national exemplar in coach development. This season the centre will boast 3 female UEFA ‘B’ Licensed coaches in head coach positions and will also have several members of the supporting coaching staff who are former members of both the Centre of Excellence and the Academy.
The Centre offers a number of proven exit routes from the Centre. These include:
- Selection for international youth and senior squads
- Selection for Colchester United Ladies FC 1st Team and Reserves
- The Colchester United U-19 Female Academy based at Thurstable School
- Football scholarships to the United States
- Coaching and employment opportunities with CUCST
Recent success stories include:
Jessica Johnson – Selected for England U-15 2009/10 season
Maegan Doyle – Selected for England U-19 in 2009/10 season
Karissa Rodney – Played in World Cup qualifying for Trinidad and Tobago national team in 2009/10
Katherine Nutman – Captained England at U-15 level and played in World Cup qualifiers for U-17s, Kat at the age of 16 has been offered a full five year scholarship to Division One US College, Oklahoma University.
