Female Centre of Excellence
The Colchester United Female Centre of Excellence is part of the Girls Football Development programme run by the Colchester United Community Sports Trust. It strives to provide an outstanding football development programme for talented young female players, incorporating a technical coaching programme, extensive FA fixture programme, structured fitness programme and detailed monitoring mechanisms. There are four squads - under 10s, under 12s, under 14s and under 16s - and selection for these squads is made via open trials which take place once a year.
The team of qualified coaches are experts in the field of coaching and focus both on the individual and collective development of the players. This approach has reaped great rewards and has produced ten international players. The Colchester United Female Football Academy has now been established to provide post 16 developmental opportunities for talented players.
One of our real success stories is Katharine Nutman, (Colchester United Under 16 Captain, England under 15 Captain & 17 International). Kat has been with Girls Centre of Excellence since 2003 after she was spotted playing Essex County Girls league football for Catholic United. Since then, Kat has developed at a rapid rate, becoming one of seven players to progress through the Centre of Excellence and gain international honours. In January 2008, Kat was given the honour of captaining England at Under 15s level. She then went on to be selected at the age of 15 to represent England Under 17s in Estonia for the Under 17s World Cup qualifiers.
