Families into Football

At Colchester United Community Sports Trust learning isn’t just for kids!

We provide a supportive and welcoming environment where adults can brush up on old skills and develop new ones, on their own or with their families.

Families into Football is a great example. This popular and successful pre-match learning activity for parents, carers and children will run during the 08/09 season.

Families into Football 1Colchester United Community Sports Trust (CUCST) in partnership with Essex County Council and Colchester United FC are working together to provide opportunities for families to learn together before football matches this season.

Consequently, ten football mad families filled EdUc@eUtd at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday and spent two fun filled hours working together to improve their computer skills in the Apple Mac suite, before watching The Club beat visitors Cheltenham Town 3 - 1.

By completing a variety of computer challenges combined with a stadium tour and digital photography the participant’s familiarised themselves with the new technology and created an album of memories from their visit.Families into Football 2

The 30 learners will return 3 more times before the end of the season, aiming to complete further learning challenges and witness other CUFC victories.

Jeanette East (Education Manager) said ‘This type of event has been something that we have wanted to do since the community stadium opened its doors. It was fabulous to see the room bursting at the seams on a match day and was clear evidence of the way that local partnerships can work together for the benefit of local families – the expressions on the children’s faces as they were given their tickets for the match said it all.’

The EdUc@eUtd team make the experiences children have so exciting and engaging. We are really looking forward to taking part in Playing for Success again in the new term and have had a fantastic time this term partaking in a variety of activities.
