EdUc@eUtd, the Education Department at CUCST, aims to make learning through sport a fun and exciting way of creating new opportunities for the future. We work with schools, parents/carers, funders and the broader community to nurture a greater awareness of the role sport can play in engaging people of all ages in learning
Our key objectives are to:
- Provide a menu of learning, training & skills development opportunities accessible to all
- To recognise the power of sport in encouraging learning
- Utilise the motivational power of sport to raise levels of achievement
- Continue to innovate in the field of Out of Hours Learning
We have a highly experienced, well-qualified team of teachers, tutors and instructors supported by volunteers who work together ensuring that learning with EdUc@eUtd is always fun and friendly whether you be 9 or 90 years old!
EdUc@eUtd delivers a wide range of learning opportunities including:
- Playing for Success – out of hours learning for Colchester Schools at Key Stages 2 & 3
- Activity Leadership Apprenticeship – training the coaches of the future
- Double Club – combining sport, literacy, numeracy and ICT on school sites
- Apple Regional Training Centre – experience, and learn how to use, the most up to date Apple technologies
- Aim Higher – programmes for gifted & talented learners from Key Stages 3 & 4
- CaRe – a community schools’ project to nurture a respect for diversity
- Communicating for Success/Families into Football – pre match family learning offering a unique mix of activities giving experience of sport & multi media supported by BT and the Football Foundation
- Stadium Legends – intergenerational learning supported by the Football League Trust and the Federation of Stadium Communities
- Supporters turned Reporters – gifted writers from Key Stage 3 & 4 get the opportunity to work with industry professionals and become journalists for two days
- Adult Education – basic skills and ICT for the ‘silver surfers’ (including mobile learning from the New beginnings learning Bus)
- More Sport – sports leadership on school sites
- Staying on Side – a selection of bespoke initiatives for schools including healthy lifestyle, anti social behaviour, re engagement, study skills etc
- Maths Challenge Days – hands on maths activities for KS2 on the terraces
- Multi Media Masterclasses – 1 day movie making or animation workshops
Our activities take place in two unique learning venues in Colchester: the Study Support Room at Shrub End and EdUc@eUtd on the 2nd floor at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

QISS Status
In November 2009, EdUc@eUtd moved from QiSS Emerged to QiSS Established Status. QiSS (Quality in Study Support) is a national accreditation recognising best practice in study support. The accreditation is gained following a rigorous process including an observation, practice focussed workshop, construction of a portfolio of evidence, peer scrutiny and clarification interviews.
Established Status lasts for 3 years.
EdUc@eUtd will now be working towards gaining Advanced Status in 2012.
