Children's Centre Overview

The Shrub End Ormiston Children’s Centre is one of seven Children’s Centres in Colchester managed by Ormiston Children and Families Trust.

It serves families with children aged 0-4 years in their local communities, Bringing together locally available services.

Ormiston Children's Centres are funded through the Government's Sure Start programme and combine care and education for young children, health services and family support with a base for childminders.

The other main centres are in Greenstead, St Anne’s and Castle, Berechurch, Highwoods and Mile End and New Town. There is also a centre in Birch which serves rural areas.

Families will find information and support available at the Shrub End centre, as well as the chance to talk to staff leading the groups and activities.

There are opportunities for families to meet at drop-in sessions and take part in activities such as rhymes and singing, crafts and physical play. Information about Job Centre Plus, the Childminders Network and pre-schools is also available.
