England call Up for Colchester United Ladies Pair
Two young Colchester United Ladies FC midfielders have been selected to attend an England U-19 training camp in Manchester, August 15 to 19. Maegen Doyle has already established herself in the U-19 player pool while it will be a first international call up for Emily Heaslip. Doyle has recently returned from the Female Academy's successful outing in Barcelona, Spain where she helped the side win the prestigious Copa Catalunya tournament and is also a regular in the Colchester United Ladies FC 1st Team. Heaslip will be among the talented new intake to the Academy this season after joining the club last season from Ipswich. Her immediate impact in the Ladies 1st Team in the second half of last season has undoubtedly earned the combative midfielder her opportunity with the U-19s despite still only being 16. Heaslip becomes the 15th Colchester United female player to receive international recognition.
The camp will include matches against Denmark and the Republic of Ireland so both players will be hoping to earn their first caps.
Colchester United Ladies Director of Football Kevin Anderson said: "It's a fantastic achievement for both players and a great honour for the club to have two players involved. Maegen has been in the England U-19s set up for nearly a year now and with a number of the top end players moving on to the next age group I think there is every chance she could really start to get regular minutes on the pitch in upcoming Euro qualifier fixtures.
“Emily came to us last season looking to move her career forward and after her displays with the 1st team last season we pushed hard to get her a chance with England. She will go in as one of the youngest players in the camp so it will be tough but she has all the potential to make an impact right away."
