Following a successful pilot The Colchester United Double Club about to begin its second cohort and continues to go from strength to strength.
The initiative was the brainchild of Scott Cohen from Arsenal in the Community and has now been rolled out to other Clubs with successful education programmes. Colchester United FC and Colchester United Community Sports Trust will be working together in a ‘double header’ to run this exciting initiative at Thurstable Sports and Sixth Form College .
CUCST Playing for Success teacher and community coach Chris Hyde will work for 1 day per week with Year 8 students and Head of Year Kevin Servantes will work with year 7 students for 1 day per week with further delivery to feeder primary schools from Christmas 2009.
Jeanette East (Education & Study Support Manager) said ‘I am delighted by the way the Double Club has taken off at Thurstable. They have been very supportive and worked closely with Chris to ensure that the participants gain maximum value from the project.’
