CUFC Player Interviews

Questionnaire For: - Steven Gillespie

Q: What is your favourite healthy breakfast?

A: I normally have Weetabix and a banana which sees me through to lunchtime.

Q: What is your favourite healthy snack?

A: I always eat a lot of fruit – mainly apples and bananas – and sometimes cereal bars, too.

Q: How often do you train as an elite player?

A: We train once a day for one and a half to two hours. We do a lot of running pre-season and occasionally we will do some weight training but mainly our training is football-based.

Q: What’s the best thing about being a footballer?

A: Playing on a Saturday and making the crowd cheer when you score a goal. There is no better feeling than playing in front of a big crowd and making them all happy. I always wanted to be a footballer right from when I was a little kid so it’s a bit of a dream come true.

Q: What’s your favourite way to keep fit?

A: I like any kind of sport so long as it’s competitive. I don’t really like just running or playing sport for the sake of it, but I really enjoy tennis and other competitive sports.

Q: Why is it important to eat healthily?

A: For me it’s important because I need to have the energy to get around the pitch. If you eat the wrong things you can end up with injuries. I need to put the right things in my body so I am ready for training. With the amount of games we play it’s important to make sure you refuel on the right foods.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to get more active?

A: Take up a sport you enjoy. I really like competitive sport so I would suggest trying to find a sport you are interested in and join a team or club so you can make friends at the same time. If there’s a competitive edge it can spur you on to keep improving your skills.

Thank You.
