Your Body
Your body works like a machine. It uses the food that you eat and the air that you breath as fuel.
The Pulse Rate
- The average resting pulse rate is about 70 beats per minute for a human adult and about 85 beats per minute for a child.
- Your pulse rate may be affected in the short-term by exercise, physical activities and emotions.
- Your level of fitness affects your pulse rate, for example the fitter you are the lower your resting heart rate is. This is because your heart becomes stronger and better at its job and does not need to work as hard.
Exercise & Keeping Fit
Children should do 60 minutes of activity a day. Twice a week you need to try and do a minimum of 20 – 30 minutes of strenuous exercise.
Daily Activities could be:
This can be done through out the day for example;
- 10 min walk to school
- 10 minute run around with fiends at break time
- 30 minute play time at lunch time
- 10 minute walk home after school
Weekly activities could be:
- After school clubs like netball or football
- Out of school clubs like ‘fit kids’ (follow link)
- Most sports & Mulitisports programmes
- Brisk walking
- Swimming
- Dancing
- Cycling
