Family Health Programmes

U’s Walk to School Campaign

CUCST is developing a Walk to School programme in three Colchester primary schools. The aim is to encourage children and parents to walk to school instead of using the car or bus. The walk will be linked to football using coaches and players to promote active travel and increasing physical activity levels.

Walk leaders will be recruited and trained to work with the families involved to develop a U’s walking bus.

U’s Let’s Cook – Cook and Eat community sessions

CUCST is getting set to launch a series of family friendly cook and eat sessions, helping people to find out how to make meals that are both tasty and healthy.

Primary aged children and their parents will be work together to learn how to prepare and cook 5 healthy meals.

The sessions will be delivered by the CUCST cook and helper, a CUCST trained coach.

All families involved in the programme will receive an UpStarts Let’s Cook recipe pack to keep at the end of the 5 week programme, to encourage them to continue cooking and preparing meals at home. Each family will also sign up to a U’s cook and eat challenge with Colchester United football based prizes for successful families.

Lads and Dads

Lads and Dads will get the chance to learn about healthy lifestyles at a series of CUCST activities. The sessions will include physical activity, a health check, healthy eating advice and the chance to watch a CUFC home football match.  The next event will be held in November.

Healthy Together

Families now have the opportunity to get Healthy Together thanks to a fun, supportive and enjoyable programme which is completely free of charge.

The eight week programme is run by Colchester United Community Sports Trust and is aimed at families with children aged 4 to 7-years-old who want to:

It gives both adults and children the chance to get active, learn about healthy eating and develop a happy and healthy family lifestyle.

The sessions take place on Wednesdays from 5pm to 7pm at Shrub End Community and Sports Centre.

Healthy Together Roadshows

The Healthy Together Roadshow at the Weston Homes Community Stadium is a free event for local school children, families and residents. The event is designed to provide a fun opportunity for local people to take part in activities, find out about local opportunities and to help them make positive lifestyle changes.
