Trust Female Academy to Hold Open Day

Colchester United’s highly successful Female Football Academy will be holding an open day for prospective student athletes for the 2010/11 season.

The event will take place on Monday 29 March from 10am to 3pm at Thurstable School in Tiptree where the Female Football Academy is based.

The informal day will consist of a presentation on the programme, a training session with the current squad, a tour of the school and facilities and information on the wide range of academic courses on offer in conjunction with the Football Academy programme.

Closely linked with National Premier League club Colchester United Ladies, the Academy is entering its sixth year and is regarded as one of the elite female football academy programmes in the country.

Staffed by a full time Director, full time Manager and Assistant Coach and Physio all UEFA qualified, the team competes in the British Colleges National Elite League against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea academies as well as the BCS national cup. Graduates of the programme have gone on to play in the FA Women’s Premier League, achieve full athletic scholarships to the United States and 10 current and former participants have played international football.

The team also participates in an end of season international tournament. Having previously won the World Youth Club title at the Gothia Cup in Sweden in 2008 the squad will this year head to Barcelona , Spain for the Copa Catalunya competition.

Female players between the ages of 16 and 19 who would like the opportunity to combine full time study with an elite level football programme are encouraged to attend. The programme is not limited to local students as there is a full home stay programme available.
