CUCST up for top award

Colchester United Community Sports Trust (CUCST) has been shortlisted for one of the industry’s top awards.
The Community Sports Trust is one of just 7 to be shortlisted in this year’s Football Foundation Community Club of the Year category as part of the Football League Awards.

Each year the Football League Awards recognises footballing excellence on and off the pitch.

Eric Shirley, CUCST Chief Executive, said: “This is really exciting news, and a great recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff to help change lives and communities through sport. Every day we help hundreds of people to achieve their full potential, in a fun and exciting way and we are very proud our work is being celebrated at a national level.”

Mike Springett, Chair of Trustees, said: “The Community Sports Trust continues to grow and prosper thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of our excellent team. Over the past year we have used the power of sport to inspire children, young people and adults of all ages across the community to positively change their lives, attracting around 7,000 to our activities each week. We’re working closely with Colchester United and other partners to continue to improve the opportunities we offer to the community.

“We’re really looking forward to finding out the results of the Community Club of the Year award in March, though even just being shortlisted in a competition like this is a great achievement.”

The winners will be announced at the Football League Awards ceremony which will take place at Grosvenor House on 14 March.

In announcing the successful clubs, Football League Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, said: “The annual Football League Awards gives us the opportunity to recognise excellence both on and off the field.  I congratulate all clubs who have made the shortlists for this year’s event. The number and quality of entries has been outstanding.”

Expert judging panels were assembled for each category including representatives of the media, the sports industry and The Football League with the process of evaluating each entry taking place at Football League headquarters on 27 and 28 January.

My children had a wonderful time at your kids club over the summer with your wonderful staff. I can't thank you enough as I had previously struggled so much with tears elsewhere.
